{Git In Mah Belly} Blackberry Ice Cream

Thursday, July 14, 2011

One of my favorite parts of Summer is the abundant fruit available at the grocery. Every week, I fill my cart with blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, peaches....okay, pretty much all of it! The downside of Summer (in Texas anyway), is the abusive heat! What better way to combat that than by cooling off with a sweet treat!

My Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker gets a serious workout when the temperature outside spikes (proof here, here and here). It's so freaking easy, and although my recipes aren't low-fat, they are made with pure ingredients. It's nice to take a break from preservatives every now and then.

This recipe makes about 7 cups, so 2-3 servings? I kid. Not Really. We usually eat it right away, when it's still soft and creamy.

Once frozen completely, it makes a great dessert for a Summer dinner party, fancied-up by serving in a wine glass. This method also allows me to stretch the number of servings by not looking like I'm scrimping on the portion size!

Regardless, we're all scrapping the bottom of the glass for more! I think I'll try this recipe with strawberries next. Or, maybe blueberries. No, I think mixed berry! What is your favorite Summertime sweet treat?

*** I'm not affiliated with Cuisinart, nor do they pay me to gush over their Magic Ice Cream Machine. They should. Call me, Cuisinart!

Get in my belly is right! I am dying for an ice cream maker. First on my list to make is this salted caramel ice cream Ina made last week on her show. Blackberry looks delish.

What is this amazing machine that makes ice cream??? I am so out of the loop...we have an old skool ice cream maker, it gets the job done, but no necessarily the easiest thing in the world. This blackberry goodness looks *divine*...

A Lived in Home July 14, 2011 2:35 PM

Can you bring me some please? I don't think we are too far away from one another in DFW. I'm drooling!

The Cuisinart ice cream maker is foolproof and worth every penny. Shop around, though, and you can get two freezer tubs with it instead of one...highly necessary for making a large batch. Cassie, love that you're using this so much fo make such yummy, fun treats for the 4 sugarplums! Ali

Yum! My mom was obsessed w. getting an ice cream maker so we finally got her one for her birthday and she's head over heels. And I must admit, homemade ice cream is darn good!

Allison July 14, 2011 3:49 PM

Oh, your ice cream looks delicious! I could go for a scoop right now! My very first job was at an ice cream parlor and the ice cream was made right there on site. There was nothing better than ice cream still soft and creamy! Love yours served in a wine glass!
