Here's What I'm Thinking

Wednesday, January 11, 2012

Maybe if we lived in Candy Spelling's former manor with 27 bathrooms, we wouldn't mind that our Pool Bathroom has been out of commission for three months. But we don't. And our 'Pool Bathroom' (named such since it's in the back of the house, right off the pool) happens to be one of three bathrooms in our house. So it's been missed. Especially when we have house guests forced to bathe in a toy-filled tub, and use a sink with constant toothpaste blobs.

After a 'Hey, remember us?!!' phone call, the glass shower door is finally being installed. Which means the painter can then finish the wall texturing and paint. You know I usually do the painting on my own, but I've got something a little different in mind for the tiny bathroom.

Oh yes, intensely blue, lacquered walls! The color doesn't scare me, but I noticed in all my inspiration pictures, the trim is painted the same deep blue as the walls. I'm a crisp white trim kinda girl, so this is stepping out for me. But so many of the 2012 Resolution posts I've read on other blogs inspired me to follow my own set of rules, trust myself, and do what makes me happy in my home. So I'm taking a chance and painting all the trim and baseboards navy blue. What's the worst that can happen...I hate it and paint them white? I can handle that. I ain't skerred! *okay, I kind of am*

Go for it! I am all about encouraging others to reach for the stars, but I'm scared of trying new things for myself. I know your bathroom will look great in blue.

Emily A. Clark January 11, 2012 7:50 AM

Carol@TheDesignPages January 11, 2012 9:42 AM

I am so excited to see how this turns out in a powder room. I have a small one that is in desperate need of a makeover and this could be just the thing. I agree wholeheartedly that painting trim will be a piece of cake if necessary.

natasha {schue love} January 11, 2012 9:47 AM

courtneyoutloud January 11, 2012 9:52 AM

Anna @ Take the Side Street January 11, 2012 10:33 AM

Way to trust yourself and do your own thang ;) There's no right or wrong, and at least if you do end up wanting to change it, it's a bathroom and not a massive living area. It sounds so awesome, I can't wait to see it... and I'm jealous that (1) you have 3 bathrooms and (2) one of them gets to be a "pool bathroom" because (3) you have a pool. wah. ;)

Lo January 11, 2012 11:01 AM

I have a friend with a teeny tiny powder room papered in a dark navy blue with slight cream etching type design on it. Dark blue wood trim and all walls covered with small framed art pieces. It is fabulous!

YOU GO GIRL!

I certainly don't want to rain on your parade; however, we did this very thing several years ago with the same enthusiasm as you possess and because our walls were not perfect, e-v-e-r-y single flaw was accentuated. We try to only look at the color - not the walls. Wishing you only the best and look forward to seeing you succeed where I failed.

Abbie April 22, 2012 10:40 PM

Okay, so your bathroom has inspired me, and I am now painting my boys room a deep shiny indigo (fancy for navy).

I'm a bit skeered myself, but the paint is already mixed, and we picked it up today, so chicken-liver or not, I will be painting an entire room crazy intense navy (in semi-gloss...not quite as shiny as I wanted, but, eh, it will do).

The trim is staying bright white, though, and the accents are going to be mustard, white, and dill, so hopefully they won't feel like they live in a cave either.

(Who am I kidding? They're almost 6 and 4 1/2. It's probably their ultimate dream to live in a cave).

ANYhoo, sorry for the longwinded update, but I thought you might like to know that you're inspiring copycats up in here.
