{Pool Bathroom} Navy or Pink Doors?

Thursday, January 19, 2012

Thanks for all the comments and tips yesterday! I knew I could count on my bloggy friends for advice. And so today, I'm getting greedy and asking your opinion yet again!

When the painter was first here, he asked if I wanted the doors painted, too. Why yes I do, I replied. What color, Mr. Pushy Painter asked. And my intelligent response? "Um, well, um, I'm not sure. Just um, leave them and I'll decide later?"

Which is laughable, really. Because I have to be the most indecisive person on the planet. At least I think I am. Maybe not? Yes, I definately am! (See what I mean?) Aaaaanywaaaay! This little bathroom (4-foot by 5-foot, not including the shower) has two doors...one leading to the rest of the house, and another to the backyard.

The whole point of painting the trim and cabinets the same navy blue as the walls, was to keep it from looking broken up. So blue doors would make the wall appear larger, and be really bold.

But, I found this really fun radish pink on the Home Depot 'Oops' paint rack awhile back, and think it'd be a great punch for the room. And come on, pink doors!!?? How fun is that?!

radish door

Here's the opposite wall with a blue door (the two doors face each other). I think regardless of the color choice for the door, I'll paint the little alcove on the right pink.

And again in pink.

I know it's hard to imagine since my pictures are just slivers of the room, so here's some eye candy to give you a better idea.

And once more, my doors....

blue or pink

I'm torn, and really could go either way. What do you think? And do you have a garage full of paint you didn't need, but couldn't resist the color and $5 price tag?!

I think you should go full throttle with the pink... maybe stencil something over it in the blue... then you get to have them both. Thanks for all the inspiration I get from your blog posts. You do a wonderful job.

Maury Kilgo January 19, 2012 7:25 AM

Blue! I dont have anything against the pink but I'm not adventurous enough to try that.

AGohl January 19, 2012 7:39 AM

I like the blue. Love the way it blends in with the walls!

Katie @ Wildwood Creek January 19, 2012 7:51 AM

I don't think you can go wrong with either color; however, I think a few pink accents look perfect (like in the living room example). Think pink towels, pink flowers, or a fabulous mirror with the frame painted pink. Also, look at this link for how fantastic navy and brass look together. http://europaintfinishes.blogspot.com/2012/01/navy-brass-dresser-heads-up.html

Jenna January 19, 2012 7:51 AM

I think blue! You can add pops of pink in that little alcove and in your accessories, so you'd still have the pink & blue scheme, but the walls wouldn't be broken up with pink doors.

theyuppiefiles.com January 19, 2012 8:09 AM

I agree that you can't go wrong with either choice, but I like the pink accents. The alcove, some towels, & other decor really pops with the navy doors.

Danielle January 19, 2012 8:16 AM

Blue! I like how it makes the doors and walls blend into one. Definitely pink accessories though! Good luck!

Anne-Marie @ 10 Rooms January 19, 2012 8:17 AM

I love the blue, and hits of pink where you want the eye to land - such a fun colour combo - I love it!

Amanda January 19, 2012 8:20 AM

Im gonna say blue- but then I thought what about gold?? hmmm or maybe stencil over the blue with gold?

Lynn W January 19, 2012 8:30 AM

I'm with the blue door crew, but put pink accessories and artwork. That way it's easier to switch up if you get tired of it. I love aqua and navy too.

Shelley {Crazy Wonderful} January 19, 2012 8:38 AM

I say blue door. Love the pink in the alcove and pink accessories. Everything is looking great!

MerryMom,  January 19, 2012 8:44 AM

I vote blue door with pink accents! Love your blog!

Karen January 19, 2012 8:45 AM

I vote for blue.... don't paint anything pink. Bring the pink in with fun towels and accessories.

I think painting the doors pink would ruin the sleek and sophisticated vibe you have going with the dark navy.

Tracy K-dollarsandsensedecor.com January 19, 2012 8:45 AM

This is a tough one! I say blue, but maybe with a pattern on the door with washi tape? Hmm...maybe not a great choice in a bathroom. Maybe paint the insets in the vanity pink? Kinda like the 1st pic has the white border above the fireplace. Or what about a brass nailhead design on the doors???
Ok-now I'm going to be thinking about this all day! :)

Amy@eatsleepdecorate January 19, 2012 8:46 AM

I really like the pink and blue combo, but I vote for the door to be blue while giving lots of pops of pink around the room in accessories! So fun! Can't wait to see the finished product!

Erin 'One Project at a Time' January 19, 2012 9:00 AM

I agree with other commenters, go with a blue door, and pink accents in the towels, soap, etc...

Madaline January 19, 2012 9:09 AM

if the hubs is cool with it...pink of course!

LiveLikeYou January 19, 2012 9:10 AM

I'll post this to my Facebook page and see what people say...Your response to the painter is how I always feel at my own house...whaaat a color?? Just relax I'll decide in a bit...not. In this case I vote navy but I would add an interesting pattern in white, perhaps paint on fake molding on door a la Dorothy Draper...three squares. Sporty, chic and timeless.

Denise,  January 19, 2012 9:14 AM

$5.00 of gaudiness is not worth it!

lisaroyhandbags January 19, 2012 9:28 AM

I love the navy and the way the door blends in with the walls. I'd rather see pops of pink in accessories or towels, etc - I think it would look classier.

pam January 19, 2012 9:39 AM

blue door. pink accessories.

Mrs. H January 19, 2012 9:39 AM

I vote PINK! My husband would never let me paint anything pink in our house. Well, maybe the laundry room because he never goes in there!

Pawleys Island Posh January 19, 2012 9:42 AM

blue!!! Keeps it seamless and use pink in the accesories. i like the idea live like you had for the faux trim too.

natasha {schue love} January 19, 2012 9:55 AM

I vote blue b/c it's safe but the pink would definitely make a statement!!

Kayla @ Your Day Simplified January 19, 2012 9:55 AM

I was reading through a few others and completely agree with Jenna- go with blue door so it doesn't look broken up and then some pink accents!

Leslie January 19, 2012 9:55 AM

I love navy and pink together; they were my wedding colors. I vote pink!

Melissa January 19, 2012 9:55 AM

Your already going bold with the navy room, a pink door will not feel out of place! Go for the pink!

samara florus January 19, 2012 9:57 AM

Blue! With pink accents and the alcove painted pink. I love pink, but I think since the space is so small pink doors would break of the room. The continuous blue would help the room seem larger.

Samara

Maggie B. January 19, 2012 10:09 AM

I would say blue. But maybe pany a medium sized bit of canvas in that outrageous pink color and hang it on the wall?

I think my husband would divorce me {or possibly kill me} if I even entertained the ide of that pink color anywhere in my house outside of my craft room or wardrobe.

So I'm saying blue. All the way.

pam {simple details} January 19, 2012 10:15 AM

I scrolled by all the other opinions so I wouldn't be swayed!

PINK!! Love that it would flow with the other pink throughout room and not everyone could do pink, but YOU can!!

Simply LKJ January 19, 2012 10:22 AM

I vote for blue! The pink clashes with your floor tile (it is terra cotta, isn't it?).

Lisa Mende Design January 19, 2012 10:26 AM

i totally love pink but was wondering if you would like to do the door blue or may be that aqua that i saw peeking from your shower ceiling? just a thought...i saw a ruthie sommers kitchen that stuck in my mind once that was dark navy and the door was pool blue...it was so striking....just a thought

Lauren Smoot,  January 19, 2012 10:32 AM

Neither! Do a silver door to match your accent pieces! Or do pink and blue one color on each side?

Ashley January 19, 2012 10:48 AM

Personally, I think blue is better. BUT if I was torn between the two, I would paint in pink, then see what you think. You can always repaint it blue if you don't like it. I think your door would probably take about 15 minutes to paint.

Carmel @ Our Fifth House January 19, 2012 11:20 AM

I'm sticking with blue girl. Pink it up in the accessory dept. - is it weird that I saw a picture at Home Goods the other day and thought to myself - this would look really good against Cassie's blue walls. - HA! Please tell me I'm not the only one who does this.

Anonymous,  January 19, 2012 11:29 AM

i vote blue doors pink alcove. maybe with a beautiful brass/crystal knob and towel hook then accessorize with pink flowers, etc. in my opinion it would look FAB to have major blue action with accent of pink. blue overload with the punches! cant wait to see what you chose...

just my style January 19, 2012 11:34 AM

Pink! Pink! Pink! MOST DEFINITELY PINK! You only live once....and its only paint, if you hate it later spend $5 more bucks!

Melissa January 19, 2012 11:38 AM

I vote pink. You only live once. I love it.

Lo January 19, 2012 11:42 AM

My first thought was blue with a fun stencil on the back in white or pink, but... pink doors would be so fun!! Its only paint right? you can change it anytime you want!

lindley January 19, 2012 11:47 AM

Pink. Pink. Pink. The blue is beautiful, but expected. Think of the beautiful rooms in San Miguel - cobalt, lemon yellow, fuschia, lime. This is the only place you could get away with it - I know you don't want sophisticated, but FUN. You and Mr. Sugarplum are both fearless - GO FOR IT!!!

Hannah January 19, 2012 12:26 PM

PINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been obsessed with navy and pink bathrooms for SO long now, but my bf says I have already girled-up too many rooms in the place haha. Let me live vicariously through you!

I love the look of the blue and adding pops of pink in towels and accessories and the nook. We have a major snow storm here in Seattle and was out with my girls all day so I did not get to my blogs yesterday. As for the walls...I just lacquered my girls beds and did I a majority of them with a brush but also used a foam roller and went over the roller marks really really lightly with my brush. It takes a little while, but have him do it right, I know it will bug you if you leave it.

Amanda @ Serenity Now January 19, 2012 12:31 PM

This is a tough decision!! I think I'd go for a blue door, with lots of pink accessories! I think the blue door would be easier to change up later on with other colors in there. But go with your gut!

Andrea January 19, 2012 12:37 PM

blue doors with pink accessories/accents

Aubrey {All Things Bright and Beautiful} January 19, 2012 12:38 PM

Aw man, that is a really hard one...I can see the fabuliciousness of both...all blue=bigger and more elegant/classypants...pink doors=super duper fun/sassypants...and that exact combo of pink and blue is so absolutely gorgeous! Gah! I dunno...I guess it really depends on what you really want the feel of the room to be in the end...either way, I'm pretty sure that blue turned out *AMAZEBALLS*

sarah@totalbassetcase.com January 19, 2012 12:43 PM

Pink all the way!! How fun! How many other opportunities are you going to have to paint that bright of a pink door??

melissamevans January 19, 2012 12:45 PM

PINK!!...all the way! ...Pink's my favorite! Your blue and a hot pink would look SO GOOD together :) Can't wait to see what you decide on!

courtneyoutloud January 19, 2012 12:48 PM

blue door pink accents.....i think in a year you will be annoyed with the pink door but stuck with that color combo

RenĂ© January 19, 2012 1:20 PM

This is waaay to hard! I want them both. How about stripes? Ha! The pink & blue together is gorge and what better place to have a little fun than in the pool bathroom. Jealous, btw :)

Ashley@AttemptsAtDomestication January 19, 2012 1:41 PM

I'm team blue, but with pink accessories. The pink would look cool, but since it leads into the house... idk it's just not what I'd do.

Anonymous,  January 19, 2012 1:43 PM

Definitely blue doors with pink accents. I think having pink doors would make the bathroom seem really small...

winetastegirl.com January 19, 2012 2:15 PM

Wow. Lot's of opinions but I think blue with pink accessories. You could paint some frames pink and stagger them on the door over the blue.

Anonymous,  January 19, 2012 2:52 PM

blue door with pink accents. A pink door just seems way too much.

Melissa F January 19, 2012 3:18 PM

If I were going to do a blue door, I'd go with aqua instead. I really like the pink, though. That's my pick.

jenniferlynn January 19, 2012 4:24 PM

Go for the pink doors! It's fun.

Lori January 19, 2012 4:27 PM

The pink is definitely fun, but I'd stick with blue and really go all the way with the lacquer look that you were going for. It's looks great so far!

Jenna at Homeslice January 19, 2012 4:37 PM

I'd probably go with the blue... the pink is really fun, but I think the blue is a little more glam and sophisticated. Either way will be awesome though. Good luck deciding!

Tiff January 19, 2012 5:17 PM

GO PINK OR GO HOME!!! :) There's my two cents!

Tiff January 19, 2012 5:18 PM

GO PINK OR GO HOME!!! :) There's my two cents!

GO PINK OR GO HOME!!! :) There's my two cents!

Mere Words Cannot Describe Me January 19, 2012 6:34 PM

/Definitely/ blue. The shades of both colors are so wildly different, just looking at the pictures was jarring to me. But I think it would be completely fabulous to go hot pink with the accents - mirror frame, towels, vanity accessories. Maybe even your door trim!

Courtney {a thoughtful place} January 19, 2012 7:14 PM

Pink!!! I love everyone's point. I think pink follows your heart and I think it's too much blue otherwise. And the computer generated pink is slightly more neon and jarring than it would be in real life. I like a pink door with one more pink accent somewhere. Super cute.

laura @ hollywood housewife January 19, 2012 7:37 PM

Well, I have a pink living room, but I'm going to surprise myself here and vote blue.

Can't wait to see!

Tiffany January 19, 2012 8:06 PM

I like the idea of blue door and pink accessories. Although I like the blue and pink in the pictures you have I don't know if it will translate well in that small space. But, if you're feeling pink, go for it.

trashtopleasure January 19, 2012 9:08 PM

Pink and white chevron with one blue zig zag randomly inserted.

Anonymous,  January 19, 2012 10:07 PM

I think a pink door would ruin your classy look and impact of the navy. And it would look too broken up. Definitely blue!

Nat and Holly January 19, 2012 10:32 PM

Wow, this is a tough one. But I have to say go with Blue and try some brass nailhead trim on the door. I think that would look amazing! Then bring in a few punches of pink in the acessories. Good luck! Whatever you decide, you will make it beautiful.

emily January 19, 2012 11:46 PM

I say blue. Can't wait to see what you choose!

Meredith January 20, 2012 7:25 AM

Pink! Love the pop of color!

Lauren Clark @ Prudence Design Spot January 20, 2012 10:17 AM

I am completely indecisive about things as well - except when it comes to other people's lives and decor. I just go back and forth in my own life =) I LOVE the PINK door - got to go with the pink!!!!

Anonymous,  January 20, 2012 11:54 AM

blue with thin pink stripes... put that painter to work;o)

Ann January 20, 2012 1:13 PM

Sounds like most people like the pink accents, I would go with a blue door, IMHO. Have you considered the "color of the year" as your accent?? ;) See Suzy's post today at betterdecoratingbible.com. Good luck deciding!

Sonja,  January 20, 2012 2:31 PM

Blue! without any doubt! Use pink towels.

Anonymous,  January 21, 2012 9:00 PM

Go navy all the way. I painted my garage door same as wall color (sky blue) and it blends well and makes room seem easier on the eye.

Megan {Honey We're Home} January 22, 2012 2:44 PM

I couldn't wait to see what everyone said! I love the navy because I love it in that inspiration photo- BUT I think PINK is so bold and so very Cassie! You are not one to shy away from a fun color. Try it and if you don't love it after a while, you can always change it:)

liz b. January 22, 2012 4:34 PM

Love the combination but I would keep the background (doors) blue, and use pink accents-towels, sconce shades etc...

An-Sofie January 22, 2012 5:36 PM

I vote for blue!! The combination of blue and pink looks great, but 2 pink doors would be too much...

shari January 23, 2012 8:03 AM

I'm just going to throw this out there - what about a Union Jack design? Or maybe a nautical flag?

Haley @thedistractedblogger January 23, 2012 6:38 PM

I say pink, or one pink, one blue if you want to tone it down. If you can't go crazy in a bathroom where can you let you design hair down?

Lisa Mende Design January 26, 2012 6:17 AM

Cassie here is the pic of the kitchen Ruthie Somers did with the turq door....
http://pinterest.com/pin/270638258827075038/
i hope this link works, if not, go to Lisa Mende on pinterest and look at my paint board and its there. the walls are soot and the door is pool but i think it would look equally great with a dark navy like yours...
