{Product Review & Giveaway} Mary Kay

***This giveaway is now closed. A winner was chosen at random and notified via email. Thanks!!***

I love getting dressed up. I tend to lean toward feminine silhouettes and colors, but I wouldn't consider myself a girly-girl. Meaning, it only takes me 20 minutes to get ready, I don't have to be wearing makeup to leave the house, and I have an aversion to frequent shampooing.

With that said, I still jumped at the chance to receive a gift pack of Mary Kay's newest products!

Excited to dig into this box of goodies, thanks @marykay

But as soon as I opened the box, I feared I was in over my head. I've had the same makeup routine since high school: blush, a single light-colored eye shadow, charcoal eyeliner and mascara. And in recent years, I've had to add concealer to mask the time marching across my face. Needless to say, I was overwhelmed by all these options!

Once I started going through it, though, I realized Mary Kay made it all so simple and convenient. The Compact Mini is an ingenious refillable magnetic compact that is easily customized and can go from your makeup bag straight into your purse. It's perfect for all women, whether you like to keep things simple or love to change your beauty routine frequently. The long-lasting mineral-based eye shadows stay true, providing fade-and crease-resistant coverage. They even include Vitamins A, C and E to protect against wrinkle-causing free radicals. I'll take all the help I can get in that area!

mary kay review

I'm not too savvy with eye shadow, but I am a connoisseur of mascara! Mary Kay Lash Primer creates stronger, more voluminous, longer-looking lashes. This primer also strengthens and helps condition lashes, while also lifting them and helping them stay curled longer. I was impressed with both the Ultimate and Lash Love mascaras. Neither flaked, smudged or budged all day.

And while I don't know that I'll forgo the makeup readily available at drugstores, I will be ordering the TimeWise Microdermabrasion Set when this one runs out! After the first use, my skin was definitely smoother. I've been using it for two weeks now, and my fine lines and pores appear less noticeable.

I also love the TimeWise Eye Renewal Cream. It has a fun applicator tip that somehow stays ice cold, and gently applies a thick cream to my very unfunny laugh lines.

  1. My greatest beauty tip has been that I wash my skin and hydrate it with oil. It sounds horrible, but I use the Josie Maran Cleansing Oil Wash and the Argon Oil as a moisturizer. If I really need hydrating (I live in New England...winters are killer for skin) then I slather up right after the shower with Aquafor. I tend to break out easily, but none of these products have made me breakout. ....On a side note...my husband hates the temporary "oil slick" face I have until it's absorbed.

  17. I would have to say my best make-up tip would be: Wear lipstick that is a lip healer like chapstick. It not only looks great but makes your lips get a healthy healing property.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Never leave home without your lipstick.

    ReplyDelete
  19. My beauty tip is to cleanse and moisturize daily. Also I love the new BB creams- they moisturize, protect and give you a good glow!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Probably a combo moisturizer/sunblock ASAP,as your skin is pretty hard to change as you age.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I wouldn't consider it a secret but as I get older I find that three things are essential for me to not look like a bag lady: under eye concealer, mascara, and lipstick. I also use Cetaphil every night to wash my face.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I am all about the gentle cleansing from Cetaphil! It is the only face wash that keeps me from breaking out and still hydrated.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Mascara and lipstick will get you by in a pinch!

    ReplyDelete
  29. My best beauty tips? A good nights sleep, a grateful heart and sunscreen!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Use moisturizer every day before applying makeup (and when you're not wearing makeup). And apply it to your face AND neck!

    ReplyDelete
  31. My greatest beauty tip is to keep hydrated from the inside--lots of water!...and wear lotion with SPF everyday!

    ReplyDelete
  32. https://twitter.com/hinsy5/status/276516766786654208

    ReplyDelete
  33. My best beauty tip is to always use an eyelash curler. It will make your eyes look bigger and prettier.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Use an eyebrow powder with an angle brush if you have thin eyebrows. Someitimes the eyebrow pencils can be too heavy.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm a big fan of oil too. Olive oil is said to prevent wrinkles - just rub a couple of drops between your hands and pat over a clean damp face, and follow with your regular moisturizer. It feels so amazing, you'll look forward to washing your face.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Use sunscreen religiously especially on your face, neck, and chest! I'm paying for not doing so!

    ReplyDelete
  37. moisturizer and sunscreen every day

    ReplyDelete
  38. Never apply concealer over under eye wrinkles. It just settles in those lines and makes them look worse!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Wearing lipstick can never be wrong!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Finally figured out how to get the tweet URL: https://twitter.com/babymamajuice/status/276671239328759808

    ReplyDelete
  41. Mix self tanning face lotion before applying to your face and it will be steak free!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm such a make-up addict. I can never get enough, yet I always fall back into my easy routine. I think it takes me like 5 minutes to do my face each morning. I looooooooooove mascaras! But nothing makes them do their job better than the Shu Uemura eyelash curler!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I feel like I don't have any beauty tips, which is why I'm sooo hoping to win this and experiment and hopefully come up with some! The only thing I know for sure is LOTS of sleep & drink LOTS of water! Otherwise, I'd say grooming your eyebrows can really open up your eyes!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Sunscreen and lots of water! It really works and helps keep your skin healthy and hydrated. And you can never go wrong with a good mascara!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  47. My best tip is sleep! And daily sunscreen :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. As many others have said - if nothing else, use mascara. It makes such a big difference!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Take the time RIGHT NOW (this week) to discover your absolute minimum time and technique. Then it's there, and you can tweak as you do all in life. You only need to use what YOU feel is necessary. Don't let the marketeers design your look. Find it yourself!

    ReplyDelete
  50. My best tip is a full nights sleep and a really good concealer~!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I soften my eyeliner with a lighter for about .5 seconds before applying it. It makes a much smoother line.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Top three tips: moisturizer, sunscreen, and mascara!

I would LOVE to win this!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I am a long time user of Mary Kay products. Due to a financial crisis in my life I haven't been able to purchase them, so I would love to win this giveaway. My beauty tip is for older women whose hair has lightened (grayed). Keep color on your eyebrows. It makes us look washed out if we don't.

    ReplyDelete
  54. My best beauty tip is to put on a dollop of lip gloss and always smile!

    Great giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  55. One of my tips is to make sure your foundation matches your skin by going outside and checking it with the daylight and not inside lights. Having a two-toned neck & face is not pretty! :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. I am a Mary Kay rep and I LOVE all our products! I decided to sell it because I discovered that the Mary Kay brand was the only brand of skin care and makeup that didn't bother my super-sensitive skin. Besides from being much better quality than drug store brands, the great thing about MK is that if you have a good sales rep, she'll deliver your product right to you door! That's what I do, anyway. (:

  57. My tip to all women - invest in electric curlers. They don't have to be expensive. Mine were $25 and they have lasted 10 years! You plug them in when you wake up, let them heat for 15 minutes, put them in your hair (takes 3 minutes), leave them in for 10 minutes (do your makeup, eat breakfast, etc), take out and spray! You have beautiful waves/curls that last all day and no fussing with the curling iron!

    ReplyDelete
  58. My best tip is simply to wash my face before bed every night.

    ReplyDelete
  59. My greatest beauty tip is to drink lots of water and always smile...joy is beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Best tips are to cleanse well, use moisturizer and apply makeup in an upward stroke. If you apply it in a downward motion it contributes to saggy skin and wrinkles...or so I've been told.

    ReplyDelete
  61. My best beauty tip...brush your lips at the end of the day with your toothbrush when you brush your teeth. Leaves them nice and smooth, no need for a special exfoliating lip product. Even my friend who is a big Mary Kay seller loved this one!

    ReplyDelete
  62. My tip is to drink lots of water. For me, that's what prevents break outs.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I wash my face and brush my teeth at least 3 times a day. Clean face and white teeth always makes you look younger.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Always Always wash your face before going to bed. No matter what & drink tons of water!

  80. My beauty tip is to use a sunscreen and moisturizer before you put on your foundation. There are really awesome new products our there called BB or CC cream. These have a lot of products to help your skin. The sunscreen will help prevent cancer and sun damage. The moisturizer will help keep your skin moisturized and not feel dry during the day. Put on nite cream at nite to help with fine lines and wrinkles as well.
