{Dining Room} Pink! There It Is!

You guys didn't disappoint when I offered up our Dining Room wall color to your vote, and I can't thank you enough for your great feedback! After a family vote, and a Pinterest consultation, we went with my original plan, but gave it a kick in the pants!

Hi Sugarplum | Pink Walls & Red Ceiling Dining Room

Oh yes, we did!! We painted the walls pink and the ceiling red! If you've read this blog for more than a week, then you know we are not afraid of color (hello, navy bathroom and green door!). And, in this instance, all we had to lose was the cost of two gallons of paint. The Dining Room had come a long way (see before shots here), but it lacked energy, and that little something-something special.

Now there's no putting this baby in a corner.

Hi Sugarplum | Pink Walls & Red Ceiling Dining Room

The room positively glows, and the ceiling adds the unexpected touch I love in a room, not to mention, a big dose of energy.

Hi Sugarplum | Pink Walls & Red Ceiling Dining Room

I could marry this ceiling, I love it so much. The red (Sherwin-Williams 'Showstopper' in flat finish) is the perfect masculine counterpoint to the pink, and keeps the room from being prissy, or too sweet. What I didn't anticipate, though, is how much pinker and more intense it would make the walls.

Hi Sugarplum | Pink Walls & Red Ceiling Dining Room

First, the painter rolled the pink walls (Sherwin-Williams 'Verbena' in satin finish), and it matched the paint strip exactly. We clapped, and patted ourselves on the back for choosing the perfect sophisticated, barely-there, pale pink. (By 'we,' I mean me.)

Hi Sugarplum | Pink Walls & Red Ceiling Dining Room

But after the red went on the ceiling (only needed two coats...Sherwin-Williams paint gives the best coverage!), I walked in and literally gasped. First at how much I loved the red. Then at how much pinker the walls had become. I think it's absolutely gorgeous, but it's not exactly the subtle pink I was going for. I'll live with it awhile before making any decisions, but right now I'm a little nervous. And funny enough, Mr. Sugarplum and our son LOVE the whole combination...and want the pink to stay as-is!

I love how the red ceiling ties to the Entrance Hall rug, and all the red accents throughout the Dining and Living Rooms.

Yikes! Those yellow undertones in the Entrance Hall need painting, fo sho.

And the pink ties in with the Living Room bookshelves and rug. See, there was sort of a method to my madness!

Hi Sugarplum | Pink Walls & Red Ceiling Dining Room

The blacks and golds look more bold and glamorous now, and the wood tones even richer. The room positively glows...like you're sitting inside a shell, or a genie lamp.

The wall color intensity changes, depending on the light and time of day. Sometimes I love it more than Fritos. Other times, I'm not so sure.

  2. I LOVE the pink walls and red ceiling. The room looks so different. Even I, as a Designer, would have questioned pink for the walls, but with the red ceiling it looks dynamite. I think the red accents around the room totally completes the look. Definitely sharing this space! xo Jenna

  4. That ceiling really packs a punch and I think from the pictures that the pink is still very subtle. Love it!
We are moving in a few weeks with an entire house to paint...giftcard please!

  5. So worth waiting for! Live withe pink for awhile--pink always looks like too much at the beginning but then somehow it harmonizes with everything as you live with it. You have such a fun sense of style and it has been fun to see this transformation :). Happy Monday!

  6. Cheery, friendly, warm and energetic (but not frenetic, which is a good thing) ... I think that's a perfect combo for a space where people family & friends come together to share a meal. And your room definitely reflects the personality of the hostess, and that's just another level of "sharing" with your guests. I've painted red walls before (7 coats and never achieved the paint chip color) so the SW 2 coat coverage to get that red is amazing! Robin

  7. That red ceiling? GORGEOUS! STUNNING! I love it!

  8. My basement needs a serious makeover! I would have never considered a red ceiling, but I love all the energy it provides!

PS: I also love SW paint - most of the time I only need one coat!!!

  9. I really love the way this came out! I vote with the boys- keep the pink!

  14. I absolutely LOVE the color combination, please don't change it! Most of our house is in dire need of a makeover!

  15. Okay... I wasn't a fan of painting the walls pink, mainly because I thought the pink was too washed out looking. But the fact that the red ceiling deepens the pink is a plus, in my opinion. I love it!

I think you need some red accents on the right side of the room, tho. They all seem to be on the left.

    Love the red ceiling, too!

  16. yay!! you did it!! This room was a long time coming but oh so worth the wait!!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh my gosh it's gorgeous! My house has low ceilings and I could never get away with painting a ceiling red. With all the natural light you've got going on, it's perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Brave choices that worked out nicely! I love how you pick up the reds and pinks from other rooms.

  19. Now you just need to convince my husband to let me paint our bedroom pink.

  20. Girl, you knocked this one out of the park! I was wondering how the pink would look and it turned out great. I see you want to change the lampshade on the piano- but I love the red accent! Nobody is putting that baby in the corner for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Love that red! It really looks great! Congrats on a wonderful job!

    ReplyDelete
  22. What a bold and brave move... it really paid off! I've never seen such a wonderful transformation with paint alone!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I love it, and your bold choice!!! It really ties in well with the rest of the house.

    ReplyDelete
  24. It looks so fresh and just great. I've loved the red ceiling in our daughters bath - and never gotten tired of it. It's an 8' ceiling but the room has a lot of natural light, so I think ceiling height doesn't make much difference. Your room is big and so nice and bright - I think that's one of the reasons it's such a huge success!

    ReplyDelete
  25. So pretty and so YOU Cassie!! Love the red ceiling the most too!!!!!! It is just a show-stopper!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Love it! I think I always second-guess my paint color choices once it's up on the wall until I've lived with it for awhile. I am itching to paint my living/dining room...just afraid to commit to a color!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wowza! I love it! So bold and yet incredibly chic. You are a rockstar woman!

    ReplyDelete
  28. This looks so great! I don't think about the ceiling as a decorating space. And I certainly don't think about pink for a living space! Great job.

  49. I totally love that the men folk at your house are on board with the pink room, too perfect (c: And speaking of perfect, a pink and red room = key to my heart. L-O-V-E. I can definitely see how it was slightly different than the original plan with the red, but it's still such a soft and subtle color, it looks fantastic!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Looks wonderful! I need to paint a couple rooms in our home soon!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I love the pink! The red ceiling is great too although I'm not bold enough to pull something like that off. I'm off to get a sample of the pink color for my living room / dining room redo. But first I have to finish up the master bedroom. Well its barely started actually. It will be a pretty gray/violet color (which I haven't picked yet. Time for more samples).

    ReplyDelete
  52. I personally think it doesn't look good at all. The red ceiling is good but the pink walls killed it.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Sweet and daring! Only you could pull this off, Cassie!! I love how it ties in with some of your other accessories!

I'd love to win and gift her the paint and supplies to finish the room. Thanks so much Cassie and SW for the opportunity! I'm off to see where I might put some pink and red paint!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Yeah, Cassie! I LOVE it! I still want to try it, now I can show my hubby your gorgeous pictures.

  75. Wow that's neat! Love the black against the pink.

    ReplyDelete
  76. One of my Pinspiration photos was an image of your dining room before pink walls...and I decided a few months ago I wanted our formal living/dining room to be pink. But Mr. Traylor wasn't so sure...so I patiently waited...and the other day he randomly said, "I think it's okay if you paint the walls pink. I know whatever you pick will be beautiful." Yay!!! So imagine my surprise when I saw that you painted your DR pink!!! I love, love, love it! Thank you for confirming my outside the box decision :)

    ReplyDelete
  77. Super fun! I love how the ceiling matches the piano bench. Bold move, but it looks so great!

    ReplyDelete
  78. What to DO with the piano? I look forward to finding out what you decide. Mine is a full-time workhorse (I'm an opera singer) but I can never figure out where to put it so that it's away from drafts and sunny windows. Not to mention that it's always piled high with on-the-go music projects and can become a bit of an eyesore.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I love the pink...it makes me love the gold and black mirror even more than I did! We always use SW paint, goes on like butter!

    ReplyDelete
  80. I LOVE what you have done to this room! I saw the first picture and immediately looked up at our ceiling! What a fantastic difference it makes. It's so rich and warm, inviting and soothing. I truly love the combination and NEVER would have thought it!

  82. I was a doubter but, it looks awesome! I really love the red ceiling!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Great room! I can't believe how good pink and red look in a dining room! When we moved in to our first house 6 months ago we painted 3 bedrooms a bathroom and our laundry room with SW paint. We love it! We still have a lot to do, so I'd love to win the sweepstakes! :)

    ReplyDelete
  84. Now you know I'm biased and generally love all things pink so I might not be the most objective person to comment but seriously...it looks SO good. I can't get over the transformation and the red ceiling...so bold and PERFECT! I've been really considering going from pink to white lately but seeing your room has put the breaks on my plans...you've single handedly re-vitalized my love for sweet pink!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Wow! I can't believe how a little paint can transform that whole room! It really looks delicious! I am so glad you went for the bold ceiling! Fabulous my friend!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Be still my color lovin heart!!! Pink and red is one of my fav color combos in fashion and it absolutely amazing in your home!! I love love love it. There's not a room in my house that's safe from the paint can and our hall is the next area on my list to de-neutralize! We have a great bank of cabinets that id love to see get a burst of happy color. Maybe mint or teal or something in the chartreuse family....

    ReplyDelete
  94. I love it! The pink and red really elevate everything else in the room. Great job!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Cassie, I'm in awe that you went for it- so bold! Red on the ceiling is awesome!!!

    ReplyDelete
  96. Wow! I can't believe how the painted walls and ceiling took this room to a designer level. We're moving to a new home in June and I can't wait to paint, but I was planning on just going white. Not anymore. I am amazed. Well done!

  97. It looks fantastic, and seems to represent your personality! I love that your boys love the pink. It may be too much, but it's just paint, right?!

  157. Your makeover is great but I don't have the nerve to make such a big change. I want to redo my bedroom but it will probably be painted a neutral color, maybe a soft gray.

  159. Looks great and happy to see the version I voted for in the last post prevailed! LOL I would love to makeover my kitchen with all new counter tops, flooring, wall paint, and paint my cabinets as they are in good shape but their color makes them look old and outdated even though they are pretty classically styled.

I would redo our downstairs powder room with the gift card!

  165. I would never choose pink but it really did help out the room from the before picture. The ceiling is awesome! I always want to paint ceilings but my hubby says they have to be white.
We are more rustic traditional in our house. But I love the inspiration to think outside the box.
Sorry I haven't figured out on my phone how to change my account so you can reply there. Next time I am on the computer.

  166. Okay. So I love this. I would never be brave enough to do this in my house {and it wouldn't look right in my house anyway,} but I LOVE it! It looks stunning. :)
