Party Planning

Between our son's camps and the trips, we haven't had a free weekend to properly celebrate his July birthday. It started out with a few friends coming over to swim...then the guest list grew until it was an End-of-Summer, Back-to-School, Birthday Bash. In the interest of preserving our small backyard, we're having it at the neighborhood pool.

He had a Stars & Stripes Pool Party two years ago, but this year it includes girls. *gulp* And since I'll be transporting all the food and decor, I'm trying to keep it simple. Haagen-Daz offered to supply the ice cream (oh yeah!!), so we're adding a Sundae Bar, too. Here's some of the inspiration I'm using for tomorrow night's party.

It's hard to believe this is our last weekend before school starts. I can't say it's the last weekend of Summer, since we probably still have at least six more weeks of pool weather, but there's no question the laid-back attitude of Summer will soon be gone. Sports, homework, practices, stricter bedtimes....it's all around the corner. But we still have one more weekend! How are you enjoying the final weeks of Summer? Wish me luck with this co-ed business going on around here!

  2. GIRLS?!?!?!?! Oh my gosh - I couldn't even look at the inspiration pictures because my heart started racing at the word - coed! I'm scared of the day when girls are included in my boys activities - and I know my time for that is coming up really soon! I hope the next couple years go by really really slow!

Can't wait to see this sundae bar - knowing you it'll be awesome!

  5. Good luck with the ladies, and good call going to the neighborhood pool! I'm really digging the brown paper as a tablecloth labeling the goodies. Totally gonna do that sometime :)

  10. Oh I remember those first co-ed party jitters! It was scary. I learned to have another mom or two to come over during the party to visit with me, so I wasn't smother mother all the time, and I had fun, too. Love the party ideas. Some are so simple, like the cupcake papers over drinks, they just hit you in the face. Enjoy your last week.

  13. Ah, yes, the first co-ed birthday party...
I remember when my daughter had her first one. We had it at our house and Hubby had to rescue a poor young boy on the sofa that was being mobbed by a bunch of girls trying to tickle him! Needless to say we realized that they all needed to be kept busy with activities and games - not left to their own devices. Other than that, it was a success. We made a 6 foot long hoagie sandwich and the kids were so impressed.
